However, as it becomes clear that Remina is on a collision course with Earth, and also appears to be destroying anything in its path, this adoration turns to fear, then to homicidal madness. It was serialized in Big Comic Spirits from September 2004 to July 2005, and published in one volume.įollowing the discovery of a mysterious rogue planet which is on a course towards the solar system, Remina Oguro, the daughter of the scientist who discovered it, finds herself the subject of fame and adoration after her father chooses to name the planet after her. 'Hellstar Remina') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Junji Ito. I’m Waezi2, and thanks for wasting time with me.Remina ( Japanese: 地獄星レミナ, Hepburn: Jigokusei Remina, lit. Read this manga, then buy a new pair of pants and underwear. Still, great artwork and a nerve-wrecking story.

I suppose she is somewhat of a Jim Hawkins, a blank slate we experience the story through, but it annoys me how inactive and personality-less she is. She does little to nothing to contribute to the plot. It might just be my inner feminist speaking, but she just stands around and looks sad.

Not as a super-star, not on the run from the cult that hates her guts, not as a survivor. … if it wasn’t for the fact that Remina doesn’t really do that much in this story. This manga is incredibly creepy, not just because of the horrifying artwork but also because of the mob of panicking people who are desperate to put the blame on a young girl, hoping that her death will somehow save their world(spoilers, it won’t). Everyone panics, and Remina is no longer seen as a celebrity but as an Antichrist since she shares name with the very thing that will end the world. Remina(the girl, that is) becomes a superstar because of this, but that takes one heck of a U-turn after it is discovered that the planet Remina is getting close and closer to Earth, and that it is… eating(?) everything in it’s way. He decides to name the newly discovers planet after his daughter Remina since he discovered the planet on his daughter’s birthday. Long story short: A scientist discovers a planets coming out of a black hole. I have only succeeded at doing this once before, but I have a good feeling about this year.Įven though today’s manga made me feel anything but good(in a good way, though).
